Perfect Timing: Week 12

24 Jan

Perfect Timing is a weekly photography project by two friends who met in college, became roommates and have been close ever since. We share a love for languages and travel, and although we’re from the same southern state, we now live on different continents, balancing a demanding work life with a private life. We both agree that everything happens for a reason, whether we see these moments as positive or negative at the time, propelling us ahead or slowing us down. We hope you will join us each week, as we share little moments of Perfect Timing with you.

This week has been full of strange ups and downs. Monday was very busy with work, even though most people took it as a holiday. Tuesday was incredibly productive and I ended the evening with a nice run with friends. On Wednesday morning things started to go downhill. Nothing awful happened, but I came down with something and was not feeling 100%. The rest of the week was up and down from there, feeling better, feeling worse. It’s been a strange week for me, but one I’m trying to learn something from nonetheless.

Even though I work from home, I never take “sick days”. Perhaps that is because I work from home. Who knows? But having to spend the afternoon working from bed did make me realize that those of us who work for ourselves often don’t give ourselves a break. At least when I worked for others, I was more inclined to take a sick day, because someone else in the office could substitute me. Then again, I hardly ever get sick, so this was very rare. In many ways, working for myself means flexibility and freedom to work from anywhere, but in others it often means working too much. We can all use a good reminder to slow down and listen to our bodies. I know this… but practicing it is something I’m still working on. This shot is called “through the fog” (taken purposely with manual focus and out of focus), because I felt like Wednesday all I could do was try to make my way through the fog to finish my work, so that I could relax. It’s times like these when our “perfect timing” title comes into play. I always think, “Great. Perfect timing. I really don’t need this right now. I have too much to do!”, but maybe this is a sign to take the time to just slow down…

Mary of Moe-Digger Photography and I became friends in college after we realized how much we had in common. We each grew up with three brothers, played sports and studied history, languages and cultures. I still remember our SLR cameras and our love for shooting with film. We have shared many wonderful experiences together over the years and have supported each other through some of the most significant moments in our adult lives. I am excited to take on this project with her. Check out Mary’s Perfect Timing photo for this week, too: Hindsight

Love love love this! So true, and fantastic photo. Love that you decided to have it slightly out of focus, but also that all of the tones are quite neutral – helps add to the feeling. Speaking of feeling – hope you feel better soon! :*
