This Season of Life: 15/52 “mission scenes”

This Season of Life is a 52-week photography project through which my friend Mary and I will share photos that depict various moments from the current season in which we find ourselves. Having remained friends for the past 12 years, we have experienced a lot of seasons together (and some apart), as we now live in very different places. Having stayed in touch, we continue to share our life experiences and challenges with one another. This has been an incredible gift that continues to shape our friendship. We hope you will follow our Project 52 and enjoy the images that we share.

This week we had the chance to revisit the mission in San Juan Capistrano. We’d been before, but this time we were with family and the mission was much more crowded. I was able to capture a few photos of my favorite little patio there. It was a nice end to a fairly stressful and hectic week. I hope everyone’s enjoy a long weekend (or at least those of us in the U.S.!).

Yesterday we took a beautiful hike along trails I frequently run. Although we live in such a dry climate, there is still so much beautiful natural eye candy to take in.

Growth is in the air during springtime. I finally got around to potting some new succulents. The colors and shapes always amaze me. These are some of my favorites.

This Season of Life: 12/52 “six years”

This Season of Life is a 52-week photography project through which my friend Mary and I will share photos that depict various moments from the current season in which we find ourselves. Six years. This past week I celebrated six years as a business owner. It’s hard to believe that six years have gone by in some ways. In others, it feels like it’s been double the time. I still remember the drive and excitement I had when I started my business in 2010. While I still feel that drive most days, there are hard days. There are days when things just don’t seem to be coming together as I’d planned. And there are days when the worries that come with a business take over. But then it’s time to snap out of it. And mostly, there are days when all we can do is be grateful for some of our favorite clients and the working relationships we have with them and special colleagues. Here’s to the next six, twelve, eighteen!

This Season of Life: 11/52 “today + always”

This Season of Life is a 52-week photography project through which my friend Mary and I will share photos that depict various moments from the current season in which we find ourselves. I was never into hearts as a symbol or adornment on jewelry. In fact, I would steer clear of them if I saw them as an option. I can’t really say why. They seemed a little too “cutesy” for me, maybe? But for various reasons in the past year, the symbol of the “heart” has taken on a new meaning for me. And this piece by my good friend Amy Lin of a3AmyLin very much takes on the meaning that I now associate with the heart. Her words to describe the pieces she makes are breathtaking, and her work even more so. Watch for her to launch her new website later this year. She is truly talented and each piece, made by hand from start to finish, has such meaning behind it. For now, you can follow her on Instagram. Do you appreciate the heart symbol? What does it mean for you?

This Season of Life: 10/52 “clear focus”

This Season of Life is a 52-week photography project through which my friend Mary and I will share photos that depict various moments from the current season in which we find ourselves. Focus. That’s what I’m most interested in lately. Focus in my daily life, my daily work and in the moments I’m sharing with others. After having made a pretty big business decision about a week ago, I know that focusing in every aspect of life is the best way to continue to be happy with the decision and to move forward in a way that benefits all aspects of my lifestyle. What are you focusing on lately?

This Season of Life: 9/52 “day trips”

This Season of Life is a 52-week photography project through which my friend Mary and I will share photos that depict various moments from the current season in which we find ourselves. Having remained friends for the past 12 years, we have experienced a lot of seasons together (and some apart), as we now live in very different places. Having stayed in touch, we continue to share our life experiences and challenges with one another. This has been an incredible gift that continues to shape our friendship. We hope you will follow our Project 52 and enjoy the images that we share.

Living in Southern California, we always talk about how much we have at our fingertips in terms of what there is to see and do. However, we seem to get so caught up in work projects, things to do around the house and other commitments like most people do. This past weekend, we took a day and drove an hour and a half to hang out in San Diego. Our first stop was La Jolla, where we had brunch at a place I’d enjoyed before.

While waiting for our table, we made our way down to the cove, and to our surprise, we found out that it is pupping season! I knew that seals could be a possibility at the cove, but I didn’t realize just how many would be there! It was so much fun to watch them sunbathe, play in the water and wash up on the shore with their pups in tow. This short day trip reminded me of how often we say how there is so much nearby for us to do, and yet, we don’t take advantage of it. Here’s to making more time to disconnect and explore. I think one day trip a month is quite doable! What do you do to explore when life gets busy?

Sending more mail is something I’m hoping to do this year. You know, snail mail. Or, as my newest stamp boasts, a good old “vintage email”. 😉 I mailed off this postcard last week to a very good friend, along with a handwritten letter to another. I hope to try to send at least one piece of snail mail per week through the rest of the year. Do you enjoy sending (and receiving) snail mail, too?

This Season of Life: 7/52 “the fun stuff”

The house projects continue… but now, it’s on to the fun stuff! More decorating! This weekend I worked on some DIY wall art that’s also my version of a hack of some overpriced art from one of my favorite home stores. See the blank wall over our bed? It’s now filled with some beautiful art that didn’t cost us an arm and a leg. I’m so excited it turned out well! I’ll share a post soon with what I did to create the wall art that now hangs over our bed.

This Season of Life: 6/52 “house projects”

This season of life has brought a lot of home renovations for us. Most of them have been aesthetic, which means we have been able to do the majority of it ourselves. As we try to wrap up the last of the painting this month with probably the biggest and toughest paint job yet, I’ll be happy to be able to tick this one off my list. We started yesterday, as I fixed a few holes in the walls of our stairwells that the flooring installers made and some dents that the previous owners’ movers left behind. Then, we painted the lower stairwell (we have two) ceiling. Wow… what a chore. But, we’re saving quite a bit of money by doing it ourselves. That means we are able to put more toward the old travel fund. Totally worth it! Wish us luck as we try to tackle the upper stairwell with crazy high ceilings next week. Even though I love to paint, I’m not looking forward to that!
